Performing American music at intimate concert venues, this new performance group sponsored by the New England Conservatory will provide a great alternative to the hit-or-miss world of Groupmuse while introducing us to Art Songs.
So, what is an Art Song?
In short, it's a fusion of poetry and music. Co-founder Seoyon MacDonald agrees with music critic Anthony Tommasini who said, “the glory of art songs is in the literate and subtle way words and music are mixed. The true song recital is as much an engrossing evening of poetry as it is a vocal performance."
What to expect...
The inaugural concert features composers and poets who spent time working in Massachusetts and will be followed by a state-themed mocktail reception. All pieces will feature collaborations between pianists and singers.
